Description
When both of her parents die in route to emigrating from Ireland to America, seven-year-old Lavinia is sent to live on a tobacco plantation. Living and working with the plantation's slaves, she forms a deep bond with Belle, the master's illegitimate child. Eventually, though, Lavinia is invited to live in the home, where she discovers the tragic differences between the master's family and the slaves.
